I don’t have an ID document from the EU – how do I verify my account?

This applies to all countries outside the EU, the EEA and the EFTA. For example, it does not apply to Switzerland or Norway.

Are you a citizen of a country that is not part of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) or the European Free Trade Association (EFTA)? This article explains which documents we accept to verify your account.

Which document is accepted?

For citizens of countries outside the EU/EEA/EFTA, we accept only a passport as proof of identity. We can’t accept national ID cards or other identity documents from these countries.

Please make sure your passport:

  • is valid (not expired)
  • is complete and easy to read, including your photo, your personal details and the machine-readable zone (the two lines of characters at the bottom of the data page)
  • shows all key details, such as your name, date of birth, nationality, passport number, issue date and expiry date

Do I also need proof of address?

Possibly. If we can’t confirm your address automatically, we’ll also need proof of address.

The Address must be in Germany.

Can I verify my account via video identification or automatic verification?

No. You can’t use IDnow or AutoIdent with a passport from a country outside the EU/EEA/EFTA. Instead, please upload your passport directly in your account.

Which countries does this apply to?

This applies to all countries outside the EU, the EEA and the EFTA, for example:

Albania · Angola · Australia · China · Japan · Nigeria · Serbia · Thailand · Turkey · Ukraine · United Kingdom · USA

This list isn’t complete. It only gives examples of common countries.
